“Being a mother is not about what you gave up to have a child,
but what you’ve gained from having one.” – unknown

When Allison reached out to me about having portraits taken with her almost one year old son, “baby C”, I was beyond thrilled. As many mothers could probably attest, she has so many photos of him and of him with other people, but she didn’t really have any photos of the two of them together. I wanted to create beautiful portraits that not only celebrate the two of them, but to showcase a beautiful woman – wife – mother.

I was able to spend some time with him, as Allison was getting her hair and make-up done, to get him comfortable with me and my camera. I teased that he already had that smolder-side eye going strong! He was so sweet to be around and melted my heart when he would grab my hand (my ovaries were flipping the whole time lol). We grabbed some of my studio dresses to photograph with and then created some portraits using just black chiffon! My make-up artist, Brenlynn, threw the fabric around and we were able to create one of my new favorite images!

Baby C, of course, did not take his normal nap…but he really was a super sweet (and chill) little guy and we did a lot in a short amount of time. It’s a team effort any time little ones are involved, but with patience and understanding I will spend the time to get the perfect image! So, don’t ever fret if you think “not my kid” – we will get it!

I don’t have children of my own, but I have a lot of friends that do and a common thing I’ve noticed is the guilt of doing something for themselves, or not wanting to get in front of the camera, or maybe not having someone take their photo with their child. I want to encourage all women to get in front of the camera, to allow photos of themselves to be taken, to treat yourself to a day of pampering and a photoshoot. To the partners in these women’s lives: take the photo of her with your child together, shower her with a photo session of the family or herself – not just for you to have, but for your child to have and treasure.

Each session includes professional hair and make-up, as well as wardrobe consultation, guided photo session, and in person ordering session. I would be honored to photograph you.
