I traveled from Nashville, TN to my hometown of Bakersfield, CA to visit family for Thanksgiving. My aunt and cousin, Hannah, had reached out to me beforehand to book Hannah’s senior session.

We decided to go to Hart Park, a popular location for photographers in Bakersfield as it has the most greenery – Bakersfield is a desert, so I wanted to make sure we created something different. Knowing Hannah her whole life, I knew that she would be a little nervous before her session, but as soon as I took the first frame, I could see the nervousness melt away.

Most women struggle with self esteem and as much as that blows my mind when photographing women, I know I struggle with the same issues. So, when showing Hannah her images on the back of the camera and seeing her smile and loving what we were doing, it brought so much joy to my heart. She had “hated” when she didn’t smile in photos…but with posing assistance and talking her through the images, we created timeless photos that not only did her mom and I love…but her she did as well!

I’m so happy with how everything turned out; from planning the session, to shooting, to hearing how happy Hannah is with her portraits.
